My advice basically is to call up a list of Collins Field Guides and scroll through until you find something that covers your area of interest. In particular I have found the Collins Guides below, together with the other books mentioned, to be of most help in the UK. If you get stuck drop me an email with your line of interest and I'll let you have any titles that I know of. Apart from leading book stores I have found Amazon as good as anywhere but you do have to plough through rather a long list.
